The division is known worldwide for peripheral nerve transfers and other nerve surgery while offering residents and fellows comprehensive training, mentoring and exposure to top visiting professors in the field.

Basic science research has led the way for many surgical innovations.

Plastic surgeons were among the first in the department to implement new practices in operating rooms to foster open communication and personal accountability essential for patient safety. More recently, surgeons and residents have addressed the opioid epidemic from several perspectives.
