The Department of Surgery continues to focus on its primary goals of improving outcomes, reducing length of stay, decreasing readmissions and reducing costs through:

  • Standardization of practice in clinical protocols for high-volume cases, including risk assessment
  • Improving reportable metrics through specialty-specific project and practice changes under the Vizient system and the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®)
  • Ongoing development and implementation of plans to reduce operating room supply and other care-related costs
