Comprising three distinct specialties, the division is a national and regional referral center for complex cardiothoracic conditions.

Our faculty members have advanced patient care and quality outcomes through pioneering research in lung and heart disease. Faculty oversee one of the world’s oldest and most respected cardiothoracic training programs. Our heart surgeons have led clinical trials of devices that  sustain life in heart-failure patients, and of minimally invasive techniques to replace diseased heart valves in patients too frail for open-heart surgery. Thoracic surgeons have studied the clinical effectiveness of lung cancer treatments, and our pediatric heart and lung surgeons have led studies of innovative operating room safety protocols.
